Lupita Nyong'o has to be one of the most well known stars of the moment. After her Oscar winning performance in 12 Years a Slave, her career has only gone from strength to strength. With film directions and make-up brands reportedly fighting over her, it was recently announced that Lupita had signed on to become the latest face of Lancôme.
Lupita says she personally chose the brand because she felt that they weren't trying to dictate what beauty is. For Lupita, beauty is a compassion for yourself and for those around you and, by focusing on that, the light inside illuminates the beauty outside, something she thinks Lancôme are also trying to get across.
While most consider this to be a true victory for dark-skinned women, who are often considered underdogs in the industry, other's are not as impressed. They claim that Lupita has clearly not thought her decision through as Lancôme sell bleaching cream - something that Lupita would surely be against.
Despite this, I think Lupita will no doubt look gorgeous on the ads and her signing will hopefully encourage and open the door leading to the beauty industry for coloured women.
What do you think of this signing?
